Initial consultation can be an important first step in thinking about a child’s difficulties and what kind of intervention, if any, might be helpful.
When delivering ongoing Consultations, I aim to provide a reflective space in which a child’s difficulties can be explored in greater detail, leading to a much deeper understanding of why a child might engage in particular behaviours, for example. From reaching a shared understanding as to the meaning of a child’s behaviour (by drawing on theories of attachment, trauma and neurological functioning), ideas for intervention can then be developed. To date, I have offered Consultation to a range of professionals including Social Workers, Residential Workers, Teachers and Teaching Assistants, Foster Carers and Adopters.
